The sound of talked about teams falling from their perches must have startled the sleeping Fremantle giant, waking them from them midwinter snooze and into a frenzy of goal kicking at Etihad stadium. The Dockers copped the indignity of being considered less than sure things against one of the worst St Kilda teams in half a century and set about reminding the football world exactly why it is that the Dockers sit so far on top of the ladder. The cruel hoax that the Saints were ever a chance had obviously suckered in a few of the locals, with the Saints and their supporters arriving in fighting spirit, that lasted about 5 minutes and by the time Griffin put through Fremantle’s 5th in a row, the game was done. The Dockers continued their rampage well past the traditional 30 point stopping point, continuing on for 12 goals in the opening half before deciding to head back into a holding pattern in preparation for their premiership celebrations. Never shy of a dance with their sister, the Saints kicked on to bring the margin back to a very flattering 37 points.
Fremantle won by 37 points.
