Fremantle have knocked off the team, that for a very brief period in April were considered premiership favourites, in a thriller at the MCG. It was a fierce battle and a bunch of stuff happened over the course of the afternoon, most of it involving Brad Hill, but it was all irrelevant when Richmond finally managed to mow Freo down in the final seconds of the game. Ross Lyon stormed out, Fremantle supporters kicked their tv sets in, Richmond supporters started tattooing depictions of the game on their sleeves but Lachie Neale got busy. Aaron Sandilands dropped the ball at his feet at the centre bounce. Neale scooped it up and, before most had even realised the ball had been bounced, he was bolting towards the goals at speeds someone of his stature has only ever reached by riding on Luke Skywalkers back and whacking him with a stick. He ran to within millimetres of his allowed distance before delivering a lace out, sponsor's logo to the camera pass to David Mundy. The Richmond supporters couldn't believe that after all this time they were still had enough life in them to be able to die a bit inside again. The siren sounded, Mundy stifled a yawn, then he dropped it through to win the game and delight the supporters back home who were still able to watch because they'd installed chicken wire in front of their televisions before the game.
Fremantle won by 2 points.
