It was touch and go there for a few days but Matthew Pavlich finally stopped wandering about taking photos of Sikh temples to come in and do the concussion test and, despite setting fire to the doctor’s office seems to have passed it. Standards are not high. Michael Walters was less of a concern, with Nik Naitanui getting onto him early in the week, sending him one of his patented cures by text message. Luke McPharlin appears to have accepted his invitation to Dustin Fletcher's 40th Festival of Grog and has feigned one of those calf injuries that seem to crop up every time someone wants a weekend off. Fletcher wanted to play but in recent years the AFL has cracked down on the trick of putting a footy jumper on a keg and planting it in the goal square. Thankfully that’s still allowed in country football so Paul Hasleby only has to rock up every second week up at Northampton. McPharlin’s absence isn’t expected to be noticed, with Alex Pearce slotting straight into full back where he’ll presumably stay until October.
