There will come a day when members of the Matera family are described solely by the relationship to Brandon. The little blokes has done it again, this time with a 5 goals, shaking the team up and inspiring them just when they needed a bit of a boost. It was a quiet affair for most of the day (on field, at least, with the Mundy celebrations, Anzac Day ceremony, some Hunters and Collectors and then still Queen for some reason) with Fremantle taking an narrow early lead and the Bulldogs seemingly happy to hang about for the rest of the day until it was time to carry David Mundy off. At half time there were certainly some grumbles and not just from the stomachs of those in the corporate boxes choosing to skip the terrine. But inspired by a couple of David Mundy goals, and the electrifying talents of Brand Matera, Freo stormed ahead in the third quarter and then held the Bulldogs back for the final term, winning by 19 points and retaining their second spot on the ladder.
Fremantle won by 19 points.
