Make no mistake, the Dockers will be in no illusions regarding the difficulty of the competition and will be well aware of the need to improve their workrate going forward after having their pants pulled down be Richmond at the MCG today. Fremantle's first half was atrocious with barely a tackle laid and most of them being broken. The defenders were all working from a different page of the game plan, the forwards were working from a different page of a Dan Brown novel, Nat Fyfe was rucking, Stephen Hill was lost in the carpark and Ross Lyon was going off at his players like a Fremantle official at a work Christmas party. Luckily Richmond had decided to do Freo slowly so when Fremantle approached competence in the third quarter, they were able to peg the margin back to just three goals and then one after the siren match winning goals from David Mundy. But Richmond made sure they finished the job in the last quarter and wasted no time in humiliating Freo to the full extent of their powers.
Fremantle lost by 77 points.
