Fremantle’s disastrous run of form has continued this week, barely thrashing Carlton at all and clinging to top spot with just 13 wins from their 15 games. In typical Fremantle style, they let Carlton take an early two goal lead, making hard work for themselves for the rest of the quarter. They put on a serviceable 6 goals for the rest of the quarter to scrape into the lead at quarter time. Without in any way doing anything positive or particularly interesting, they held the lead for the next couple of quarters before the young Carlton champions of the future hit the wall and allowed the more experienced but lucky to be in the competition, let alone on top of it, Dockers kicks some cheap goals late to win by a very unconvincing 42 points. Chris Mayne was seen doing his job, kicking 4 goals and Michael Walters extracted some cheers from the crowd with a high mark but he probably should have stayed down and crumbed.
Fremantle won by 42 points.
