There's nothing quite like the first game of the season. The hopes and dreams of thousands all riding on whether or not the coach bothered to show up to training in December, or at least that's how 2016 went. That's all behind Fremantle now though, that and the women's season, and the various police stuff over summer - oh, and that injury to Hayden Ballantyne. 2017 is a fresh start, with a fresh home ground and a fresh batch of meat for the Subi Burgers - at least for a week, anyway. Not surprisingly, there are a bunch of new blokes into the team this year, each better than the last (if you order them right). Shane Kersten, Joel Hamling, Cam McCarthy and Brad Hill are the sort of inclusions that you usually only see when people are putting together wish lists in October but Fremantle will be bring them all in, as a replacement for Matthew Pavlich who had to retire to focus on his television commercial and shopping centre appearance career. Nat Fyfe is another handy inclusion after spending 2016 on the sidelines - well above the sidelines most of the time. The Cats will bring over a few new blokes as well but it's probably not worth learning their names just yet.
