Fremantle did their best to meet their contractual obligations with the AFL, although there were moments you expected Gillon McLachlan to walk onto the ground, apologise to the crowd and break the news to Fremantle that their services would no longer be required. The conditions were slippery and the weather was hot but Fremantle looked every bit a team counting down the weeks until the season is over (except for Brad Hill who looked like he was playing to earn himself a spot in the finals team). It was slow and plodding for the most part, with the occasional effort from Michael Walters to drag the team up to a level that wouldn't cause them problems putting 'Footballer' as their occupation at customs. They were futile efforts though, even with Melbourne spraying the ball like a Brazilian soccer player, the Dockers didn't look like a team who'd come with the intention of taking home the 4 points and lost the game accordingly.
Fremantle lost by 54 points.
