It was a frustrating afternoon for Bombers supporters who'd arrived expecting an easy 4 points but found themselves stuck watching a contest. Fremantle played a good honest game of football, utilising techniques such as a forward line and marking to get themselves to half time looking like a group of people who could comfortably pass for a football team. They fell out of favour in the second half though as the young blokes tired and the blokes doing all the work felt the exhaustion of the past three seasons, also Essendon started getting the ball forward quite a bit. The final margin probably flattered the Dockers slightly, with Essendon winning by 29 points where 21 of those were actual points.
