While the supporters of some local football teams have a reputation for leaving the game early, keen Fremantle supporters have worked out that arriving late is the best way to enjoy their team's performances. It was probably worth arriving just before the first break to see Brad Hill jail one from 60m out, in the wet, against the wind, with an untied shoelace and the reflection of Hayden Ballanytne's watch hitting his eyes but the rest of the team didn't hit competence until the second quarter. Shane Kersten kicked a goal opening minute of the second quarter but, with windy conditions and a bit of rain, it was a slow process pegging back the lead. Michael Walters took the honours of putting Freo in front when he goaled early in the third and he kept them there with a couple more and that was Carlton done for the day. Sure, they puffed their cheeks out a bit and some of them muddied up their jumpers but, for the most part, they chucked it in and let the Dockers take a sensible 35 point win and soar into the top 8 where they are expected to stay until just before the beginning of October.
Fremantle won by 35 points.
