Fremantle are in damage control tonight after accusations that the team deliberately threw their match against a local Perth team. Fremantle have strongly denied the accusations but they may find it hard to back those claims up if the AFL decide to take things further. Their opponents, despite being a bit of a running joke in the AFL, were given a significant lead in the opening half, leaving many football experts scratching their heads. Marks were 'dropped' and handballs were over cooked, kicks were lobbed up in the air in the direction of opposition defenders, while the Fremantle defenders were reluctant to run, jump or put their hands up when the ball was anywhere near them. Right from the opening minutes, there were murmurs around the ground that something was suspicious but by halftime, with the Dockers down by 45 points, people in the crowd had become very vocal in their opinions on what was happening. There were even suggestions that the umpires were in on the fix, deliberately helping Fremantle in their attempt to lose the game. Obviously the players were smart enough to tone it down after half time and keep the game ticking over at around the 7 goal margin but some serious questions will need to be asked in the coming days.
Fremantle lost by 41 points.
