The West Coast Eagles continued their run of remarkable luck, taking home the 4 points against Fremantle despite barely touching the football. Freo dominated the contest all day long, with sensation runs down the wings, thrilling high flying marks and courage and doggedness not often seen by most of the Eagles supporters present. It should have been one of the all time great humiliations of the Eagles, the sort that sees Perth become a scene from The Leftovers for the following six months but, unfortunately, Fremantle's forward line coaches could organise a round of beverages in an establishment renowned for producing said beverages. Time after time the ball was kicked to a combination of no-one, an Eagle or, in the case of most of Brad Hill's kicks, the security guard in the pocket. All it would have taken from Fremantle was a good five minutes of competent work in the forward line and the game would have been theirs but they couldn't manage it, letting the Eagles skate straight past them as they lay on the floor wondering what just happened.
Fremantle lost by 30 points.
