Time is a funny thing. It seemed to take forever to get to Sunday afternoon and the big game between Fremantle and Port Adelaide. Then, when the bounce down finally arrived, the whole thing was over in about 5 minutes, for the more optimistic supporters. It's hard to say what went wrong, some blame the kicking and the players' inability to get the ball in the general direction of their team mates, some blame the marking - or the complete lack of it, some blame the unusual planetary alignment for this time of the year, which sounds a bit far fetched at first but if the other option is a professional football team who can't kick or mark then you have to consider it a realistic consideration. Fremantle went 6 goals down before they troubled both arms of the goal umpire but a couple of quick goals and a stiff breeze against them left the door unlocked at quarter time. They wasted no time making sure it was double bolted in the second quarter and, after another 7 goals from Port Adelaide, it was just a matter of everyone fulfilling their contractual obligations to the AFL. There were a few patches of competence after Port had put the queue in the rack but the final margin was still 89 points.
Fremantle lost by 89 points.
