Fremantle flew out of the blocks like a New South Wales greyhound, with Mundy waltzing the ball out of the centre and Matt Taberner looking to have arrived. Then, like a New South Wales greyhound in a sack, they hit the wall and it quickly became apparent that, not only did Melbourne have a much better team on the ground but they also had a team who all appeared to have a general idea of what they were doing. Fremantle's midfield looked like they'd all been told a separate part of the game plan then sworn to secrecy, the back line barely even existed and the forwards managed to do the best with what they were given, to stop the rest of the team from going home completely humiliated. Thankfully, the opposition was Melbourne so it wasn't too big an ask and, after poncing about in the tropics for a couple of hours, Fremantle headed home 32 point losers.
Fremantle lost by 32 points.
