It was a cold, miserable day for the footy and, despite the people of Perth being notorious for their fear of the rain, some of them braved the conditions to support their team. Carlton rewarded that effort and price of admission, by doing their best to make the game as painful to watch as possible. Fremantle popped through a few early goals in the first quarter and thought they'd knock off for the day but Carlton had been playing the long game and fired up in the second quarter while the Freo supporters kept tried to see if they could get evicted for telling abuse. The Blues got close to Freo in the third quarter and the crowd could well have jumped the fence if they weren't all up the back gathered around drum barrel fires but the magic boots of Cam McCarthy gave Fremantle a nice buffer. The two sides scrapped it out for a tense last quarter, with Freo thinking they could play for time. Carlton had different ideas though, they took the lead, Freo took it back with a minute to go and then Murphy pinched the game for the Blues with a goosifying backfoot reverse blind snap.
