One time defeated Fremantle will head back to Subiaco Oval this week to take on the Brisbane Lions in what is expected to be a decidedly lacklustre affair. Fremantle had pencilled this game in as a percentage booster at the start of the season but you don’t need percentage where you’re nearest rival on the ladder is daylight, which means Fremantle are likely to use the game to get in some rest. It’s a controversial move because Luke McPharlin’s canasta game has been slipping a bit of late and he could have done with the practice. The selection committee are pretty excited to get in a Sunday afternoon game because it means they can look like they might make some changes for a few hours, until the final list has to be in and then it turns out they’ve done bugger all. So Zac Clarke, Tendai Mzungu, Matt Taberner, Paul Duffield are all into the extended side this week with Jack Hannath not even given the dignity of making the spares. Brisbane have listed some names as ins but they must be made up because Brent Staker is one of them.
