Are we back here already? Honorable losses and feeling happy with a good effort and some good performances from the kids?
Sure looks like it. I was at any rate.
Before I start I'd like to provide another example of why we mourn the loss of Clinton Grybas. On TV on the weekend, Jerko had the following gem "well they're not in front so they will need to kick more goals to win. They need to find a way to kick more goals before they can win".
Seriously. It's a danger to our kids exposing them to this stuff. Listening to that muppet for any more than 5 minutes will cause more brain damage than a year on a couch smoking doobies.
Anyway, on with this weeks rankings.
1 (1) Geelong - 19mins in to the last quarter it was 10 points the difference. By the end of the game it was much more than that and Roosy was having a crack at his dual BM. Good teams do that to you.
2 (2) Hawks - Hard to keep talking about these guys without talking about Franklin. His worst game this year was against us and he was almost the difference in that game due to a 5 minute burst in the last quarter.
3 (3) Bulldogs - Stay here by virtue of those directly below them not doing alot. As little success as they've had over the years, I get the feeling that supporting this mob wouldn't be too bad an experience.
4 (7) Crows - They had their share of luck but they did beat a genuinely competitive team in a hard fought contest. How long can McLeod keep doing that do you reckon? The day he retires I think Freo goes on a 20 game winning streak against them.
5 (8) Saints - 2 attacks on Saints midfielders in recent times have been at the opposite end of the credibility spectrum. Firstly, Mike Sheehan may be right in that NdS doesn't give enough to his team. However, Dermie showed he is in the upper league when it comes to idiots when he said Harvey was soft. Not the first time Brereton has been exposed as a goose, but it was 1 of his finer efforts.
6 (9) North - Lucky win, but anyone who wins by a kick always has luck. Show me 1 person who doesn't like seeing Collingwood lose like that and I'll show you a toothless moron from Broadmedows who is humping his cousin's wife.
7 (4) Swans - They hung in there for a long time, but they still got blown away in the end. Perhaps the beginning of a slide.
8 (5) Brisbane - I only saw about 5 mins of this game and again saw Travis Johnstone run back in to a pack with eyes for the ball. Who is this guy now?
9 (10) Tigers - OK. So they've had their 1 good game and now they've had their 1 "almost upset". Signs of life and the apocalypse or brief flirt with decency? Tigers fans should hope for the latter, otherwise Terry could stick around and sentence you to an eternity of mediocrity.
10 (11) Carlton - 2 in a row. Heady days. You know, to borrow a line from R. Walls, I can take credit for this team and for the Tigers. Ever since I bagged them by picking that terrible combined team they have turned it around. Obviously my criticism worked.
11 (6) Collingwood - 2 terrible losses. How long before Mick throws a Cloke under the bus and blames them for the form slump. He's only got 1 left though.
12 (13) Port - Could have and should have won by about 80pts. Woeful last quarter for the 3rd week in a row. That should be a concern.
13 (12) Essendon - Can be exciting to watch but fatally flawed when it comes down to it.
14 (14) Freo - Should set themselves to spring an upset this week. Ibbotson should be in for a few games now. So should McManus.
15 (15) Cheats - What a superb effort to come back so hard when the game was over. That showed true grit and character. To kick 7 in a row at home against a team that hadn't won a game was inspirational and should give everyone real hope. I will now take out my own intestines with a fork.
16 (16) Melbourne - Melbourne were much better without Neitz. Surely I am not the only 1 in the country who isn't surprised by this.
