Port Adelaide assistant coach Josh Carr has ruled himself out of the race to become West Coast’s next senior coach - but his boss is reportedly the Eagles’ top target.
Carr has long been linked to the Power job once Ken Hinkley departs, and he is happy to remain at Alberton for the time being.
“I’ve been really clear from this time last year that I’m here to stay in Adelaide - not moving away any time soon,” Carr said on Monday.
“Everyone’s settled, I’ve moved a few times the last few years and I’m fully entrenched at Port Adelaide.”
But the job above Carr could soon open up, if a report from the west is correct.
SEN WA’s Tim Gossage claimed Ken Hinkley is “the number one target" as West Coast seeks a long-term replacement for Adam Simpson.
“I think the shift has been significant in the last 48 hours,” Gossage said on his breakfast show.
“I’m confident he is near the top of their shopping list. You can’t come out and say he’ll get the job because it is a massive process, but I do believe his name has soared into contention at West Coast.”
However Carr believes there is little merit to the veteran reporter’s story.
“I think you’ve probably just got to look at the source first. Think it was Gossage, wasn’t it? It’s never that reliable, is it?” Carr said.
