I had forgotten he was a top ten draft pick. Though the bid that forced us to take him felt a bit contrived.

Who was the next best we could have taken?

Hope we get well compensated if he goes which me might if he doesn’t nominate a club with limited draft capital.

Tyler Brockman is looking out of Hawthorn. I'd gift wrap Henry for him.

I just wonder. If we had let Carlton take him in the draft instead of blowing our top ten pick. then would he now be asking for a trade to Freo?
Anyway, it just goes to show you what sort of person he has grown into now able to turn his back on the club who made him into the player he is becoming. Not to mention all the help he's been given by team mates through the years.
I see this as him turning his back on everyone at Freo.
let's hope Belly and the boys can turn this into a Champion player who would just love to call Freo home...

So, let’s get this out of the way early: can we boo Liam Henry?

Pros:
Freo invested a lot in Liam, including reaching to get him in the draft.
I feel like he’s been given a fair opportunity, and the team is on the upswing.
He’s requested a trade right when he started to perform well.
No ‘go home’ factor, or really any obvious reason to leave other than chasing more money.

Cons:
He’s a young indigenous bloke, and booing an indigenous bloke happens in the context of something pretty ugly.
Booing is generally a little petty.
Earning more money and deciding where to ply your trade in most contexts are reasonable considerations.

Unknowns:
How he conducts himself during negotiations (we know his manager, who he chose, will act like a pillock.
Which club he goes to.
How well he plays for his new club and against us.

Provisional view:
Given the racial context, I probably wouldn’t boo him, but if he wasn’t indigenous I’d probably give him the full Rory Lobb treatment.

I won't boo him.
I. He has tried hard to do his best week in, week out despite knowing he was leaving. That is professional behaviour from a young man. (Compare that to James Clement)
II. He may want to return one day. Brad Hill ended up back we he started.
III. If my mail is correct, North Melbourne have offered him $600,000. Fremantle (according to my dodgy sources) offered a base package of about $350,000 which could become close to $600,000 if he triggered all the KPI's. Given his injury history the deals are not equal.

Good luck to him. Hopefully there are other clubs looking for his service (and the don't include the OOFTITs)

If Liam Henry was offered 600k who can blame him. And if we offered him 600k I'd be furious. 600k! North Melbourne will have salary cap issues soon enough.

My understanding is Christian Petracca is on 800k a year, just to provide a little context to the absurdity.

I guess footy needs to get real about contracts.

When the club offered Liam a contract until the end of this season, they were indicating that's how long itwere prepared to commit to him. When Liam signed it, surely it's fair to take that as indicating how long he was prepared to commit to Freo.
Both sides of the deal have now fulfilled their side of the deal. All this talk about what happened before he was drafted, and how the club" supported" him is just talk.
I'm very sorry to see him go, but I can't say he owes us anything he didn't already give us.

Carlton, Geelong seem to be able to fit everyone in their salary cap.

We struggle to keep our home grown talent .

Look I am not saying he is a star by any means, but he is a West Aussie who once loved freo.

Another unexplained loss.

Given the the disastrous letting go of Blake acres and no one paying the price in administration, I suppose the board will also ignore this one.

Things keep rolling on !

Henry's value only increased 10 games ago. He had already made the decision to leave long before then, because he thought he was worth a lot more than what he had shown at the time, which was frankly not very much. That speaks to his character.

If the roos want to pay him $600k, demand their no.2 pick or deal with Hawks.

The gossip seems to be that we will get Tyler Brockman for Liam Henry but I would like to see Freo go after Denver Granger - Barass. Brockman is a small forward. We have plenty of them at the moment. We will need a replacement for Pearce sooner or later. Granger -Barass is a tall defender and an angry man would be a better fit for us.
