Something which is the massive elephant is the VFL fixtures this year is the WA teams get shorter days between games and play teams at home that have longer days of rest. We play Sydney on Friday who will have a five days break from a home game yesterday and we have four day break after playing Richmond away today. Essendon played nine days ago at home and West Coast five days between Gold Coast away, We play Richmond who played 10 days ago at the their home MCG and Freo has 7 day break which includes a day of travel.
I can see the AFL having a police escort for Victorian teams to get to home games so they don't need to stop at a red traffic light.

A comment was made that interstate clubs joined the VFL and the travelling every second week was the go.
But games were on a Saturday afternoon ( the norm for all states for 100 years ) and Friday night games at the MCG only started a year before the Eagles joined. The interstate clubs would get a week break not four days,
Plus each of Victorian clubs still had their home ground ( Richmond/Melbourne at the MCG) which now they share two venues and the MCG based clubs complain about playing at Marvel a couple of km's away. Collingwood never play there.
