Talking about the sub player being the 23rd player and scrapping the sub.

What does that achieve? If a team loses a player to injury doesn't this leave us with same problem?

Soccer, lots of reserves. And when you are off you are off.. you rest in the forward pocket and kick more.

Once upon a time there were 18 with 2 substitutes - 20 players.

Then there were 21 players, then 21 + a sub, then 22, then 22 + a sub.

This is player inflation.

Scrap the sub, either run with 22 or 23, don’t really care. The injury argument doesn’t really stack up for me either, what happens if one team loses two players to injury before half time or lose one to injury immediately after subbing one out, then that team is one player down. It happens, might stop teams taking risks on players not 100% (like Power last night).

Personally I think the game went downhill after we started adding players and allowing interchange. It changed the game as players didn’t fatigue as much late in the game or late in quarters. This led to umpires not being able to keep up with the faster sustained pace. So we added umpires this led to inconsistent umpiring as each has their own interpretation of the rules.

My solution is 5 players on the bench and a max of 3 substitutions a game.

Chris Connolly changed the game when he used it for rotations instead of substitution.

That's the problem I think.

A substitute is just that. An irrevocable replacement.

The point of bringing it back was so clubs wouldn't be discouraged from taking off players with concussion. But they're all exfootballers with brain injuries and they forgot that part.

They'll take a player off with hamstring awareness but leave them out there with a brain injury.
