Is this the 21st Century or are we living in the dark ages. I won't pretend to understand our indigenous cultures but the club has an obligation to its members to make a stand on the Simpson debacle. If he was picked as the traveling emergency as Roly stated then he is obligated to show up. In the military this is AWOL.

I thought Ross Lyon was outstanding at his post game conference today. His honesty with josh simpson question was refreshing - no rhetoric just the facts. Always enjoy his press conferences.

If Josh Simpson's situation does not complement the requirements of AFL football its time to part ways and make way for others...

Yeah I like his pressers, He's pretty much straight up and down and doesn't take crap from the journos. He said effectively 'Josh spat the dummy but that they are there to help him'. Thats a mature approach by the club and Josh now has to play his part too.

Come on fella an AFL career is just waiting for you if you want it enough.

The other issue in this is the way the media have reported it. They have again taken the opportunity to put the boots in first without going to the club for a comment on the situation, then have carried the story through the week to cause maximum embarrassment to both parties. When these issues occur down the line, a comment is sought from Eagle HQ, put through the whitewasher to make sure no-one could be damaged by the report, then it is put on page 56 of the west alongside the used car ads and public notices, while Channel 7 slip it in as they go to an ad break, PRRRR mute all comment, and Eagle HQ say thanks mate again.
Have a read of what is happening to the North Queensland Cowboys in the NRL, and tell me it is not a familiar story. The media are running to an administration agenda and will continue to do so.

You can't blame the media or the club for this. One person is at fault and that is Simpson. He was dropped as are players every week. But instead of acting like a professional athlete he chose to act like a petulant child.

I hope the club send him to Peel for several weeks to have think about if he wants to be an AFL player or not.

Seems pretty clear now what the situation is from Lyon's media. No BS or PC buzzwords.

I find it interesting he says guys like Simpson haven't come out of Hale with a silver spoon in their mouth, but he's acting like a spoilt brat just the same.

The club acknowledge and supports the adjustments indigenous young players have to make. But it takes two to make it work. He's also an adult with a couple of kids. Time to start acting like one.

I didn't realize I was on 6PR ... we have really ratcheted up the redneck factor in this thread.

Comments on here re indigenous culture are quite illinformed.

How come Houli (Muslim) is praised for demystifying Islam but any time an indigenous kid does something different he just needs to toughen up and get on board?

Now someone tell me what is wrong with a culture that says if my family or extended family needs me in time of tragedy I drop everything and go to them? ... nothing that's what and how certain westerners treat family could learn a thing or two here.

My experiences with Aboriginal employment programs are sometimes the individual just tells you he can't be bothered coming or is not interested anymore simply because it is easier and less painfully for him that trying to explain agan why he has cultural business to attend to. there is more to is that a petchulant kid.

He didn't punch anyone, fail a drug test, get done for DUI, involve himself in a domestic dispute etc etc.

We all want players to improve - foot skills, endurance, decision making on this field and this case the skill he needs to work on is decision making off the field.

Keep him in purple

I find my life pretty easy to tell you the truth. Being a white middle-aged male I am not judged by anyone, but do feel a wonderful sense of god given entitlement to judge others based on my own prejudices and narrow world view.

How do we know that as JS wasn't even named as an emergency that he hadn't gone home (yes maybe spat the dummy) and then received call to go and had to advise Club he couldn't get back in time - but then most of you seem to have inside information!!!

I'd give the kid another chance and at this stage prefer to keep things 'inhouse'.

I refuse to play the PC game here.

I've already acknowledged the indigenous kids often have difficulties, and clubs are more aware of it than any of us. They handle it in an informed and sympathetic way.

As for conjecture about the actual situation of his no show, Lyon made it very clear. If he had a family crisis, you can be sure the club would have said so. He spat the dummy because he didn't get named to play.

I'm not going to be an apologist. i was on board with this lad last week, footy wise he's got a lot to offer. But he's affected the team negatively through selfishness and petulance. Regardless of his issues, there are other people involved. It's a team game on and off the field. He's made the club look bad and provided an unnecessary distraction.
