Judging by the floggins we've been on the end of so far, we're not in the business of winning premierships.

Send whatever message you want to Simmo, just don't do it over the airport tannoy.

I hear you, but reading between the lines it appears the no show for the big bird trip was one of a number of issues that have occurred. Lyon strikes me as quite a reasonable person apart from sometimes toward media people.

I understand we're in the business of winning premierships but to me it would smack of desperation in that after what the coach publicly states as very disappointing and clearly appears somewhat annoyed, we reinstate the player with what would virtually be no disciplinary measures.
It would seem as if he were to be the saviour, the only one capable of filling a suspended players shoes.
It doesn't say much about your faith in other players or the squad's depth and I still think it sends a terrible message and could create unwanted discontent in the playing group.
Still, stranger things have happened in football.

4x4, remind me how the Iraqis went in that war. I'm all for privacy, but for the record, about 30,000 people go through the Perth domestic terminal every day. Fair to suggest that some of them would have heard that Josh wasn't at the airport when they announced it over the intercom.

As for whether Josh plays, once upon a time he'd have to front up the coach's office and apologise, and then go out and run a bunch of extra laps. These days I'd expect he'll have to stand in a circle of his playing group and apologise, while they each take turns explaining the ways he's let them, the club and the supporters down. Then he'll probably have to take a 'self-imposed' month-long break from the seniors and knuckle down at Peel to win back the trust of the playing group.

I find the whole 'leading teams' stuff a bit distasteful to be honest, but I have no evidence it doesn't work. Still, Josh is probably lucky blokes like Robert Walls aren't still coaching footy clubs. His version of facing the playing group was a little more hands on.

We'd probably have a better chance of winning Friday if Josh is on the park, so part of me hopes he plays. But Roly will also have Ballard, Crozier, Duffy, Grey, Menagola, Neale and Sheridan in mind when he decides whether Josh deserves his spot. Assuming he hasn't forgotten about him, Roly might even spare a thought for SCOS. Poor bloke has been named an emergency more than any player should, and as far as I can tell, has been pretty professional about it. As I said above, group dynamics matter. We might be marginally better on Friday with Josh in the team, but Roly and the match committee know it's a long season and an even longer career. We might get on board with Josh playing, but there's a group of young, competitive footy players on our list desperate to forge a career who would do anything to play on Friday. I'm not sure what it does to them to see that spot being given to someone they may perceive doesn't deserve it. That's the risk you take by picking Simpson, and based on everything we've seen from Roly, I don't think he takes that risk.

At the risk of throwing some petrol on an already raging fire ...

Let's compare Balla's actions getting himself suspended again:

- been in system longer than Simpson and should know better;

- he is in the record as saying he understands the impact it has on team;

- Walters out makes his actions even more stupid and potentially more hurtful;

- definitely in our best 22

Anyone describing his actions as disrespectful? Selfish? Disruptive?

Critical matches v North and WCE ahead.

For the record I am confident club is doing what it can for Simpson and is learning and adapting as they go through this.

To those folks who say go watch Roly's comments I say go watch Simpson's post the Essendon game.

I did. I said it was undisciplined and I agree with everything you said about Ballas.

Pretty sure it's six of one, half a dozen of the other with Ballas. He gets as much as he gives, it's just that whatever he does gets magnified while other off the ball incidents which we have all witnessed him endure don't get a look in as a lot of the time he is considered fair game.
Not that what he does is condoned mind you.

Yes 391, bit I think the point may be Ballantyne showed up to commit his indiscriminate act.

Well, no pulling punches there from Roly. The last few lines on Simpson are rather damning.

Ross isn't exactly setting the world of acting professional on fire either. Probably time to stop publicly slagging off Simpson.

Probably time a few players down there had a look at themselves, fair dinkum what is going on at the moment.

Alex Forster for Brad Hill has put me in a fair old mood.

I can't see any gain in speaking with Langdon and Co. every Monday night - a lot of press comes from it, but not much of it is good. Is there someone else he can ring on a Monday? Maybe those Purple Circus guys on Tuesday instead?
