There’s a bit of a to-do going on in Melbourne this week. It turns out that every year the locals have some sort of game at the end of the season and hand out a big cup thing. When Fremantle heard about this at the start of the season, they decided they’d go over and have a look. So on Saturday they’re off to play in the Grand Bloody Final. Last time Fremantle were in Melbourne they had to shoot off to Geelong, to the world class sporting and plumbing trade college but this week they’ll be playing at one of the local cricket grounds (apparently they don’t have any actual football grounds of any standard in Victoria). No one from Fremantle has gotten all that caught up in the game, with it being a quaint Victorian tradition and all, but a few will pop in for a bit of a look just to see what all the fuss is about. Freo didn’t even bother making any changes to the side they fielded last week. The Hawks have had to drop Brendan Whitecross who’s nerves got the better of him when he walked past a photo of Matt deBoer and they’ve brought in Jon Simpkin who probably wouldn’t recognise another AFL player if he walked up to him and told him he was getting toweled up. Should be a good exhibition from Fremantle and a relaxing weekend to wind up the year.
