The Dockers have pulled off one of the greatest escapes since, well since the umpires gifted West Coast a win over the Kangaroos a night ago. Looking lost, without any hope and no idea how to play the SCG, Fremantle were headed for a nasty defeat and a long, lonely tip back to the good side of the country but a goal kicking festival from Nat Fyfe and Michael Johnson brought Fremantle back into the game, leveling the scores and pinching two points from the Swans that Johnny Longmire thought were in the bag.
Fremantle and Sydney were perfectly matched and when they went into battle against each other at the SCG. It was Rocky Balboa fighting Apollo Creed in that Rocky movie, you know the one where they fight each other at the end and it freezes before they land a punch. Freo looked the better team early but kicked terribly for goal and the Swans gradually wrestled control. Spaz boots aside, Fremantle kept a close eye on the Swan but gradually fell off the pace and looked set for certain defeat.
But a late goal to Ballantyne before three quarter time offered Fremantle some hope, then a string of goals from Michael Johnson and Nat Fyfe brought Fremantle level with the Swans. A big roost from Michael Johnson looked destined to carry and give Fremantle a lead but the wind blowing from a half build grandstand conspired against him and brought the ball down a few metres shy of it's target. The Swans hung on to the footy from there and Fremantle had to settle for their first ever drawn game.
