It was a classic late pre-season match with Fremantle loading up with their big name players while the travelling Bulldogs sent over anyone who met the minimum requirements for a game of NAB Cup football and a couple of blokes who looked suspiciously like they'd been rounded up at the Lazy Crab on the way down. The result being that Fremantle smashed them from siren to siren.
All eyes were on Matthew Pavlich early and, aside from looking a bit rust around the goal posts, he looked ready to carve up the Eagles in round 1 but more importantly he had plenty of help down in the forward line with Chris Mayne taking some good grabs and carrying on his quality kicking; while Michael Walter provided plenty of support not just kicking a bag of goals but providing some handy penetration into the fifty.
The midfield was a bit of a clearance machine with Nat Fyfe returning from his working holiday to dominate, along with a prodigious Clancee Pearce who put in a game that could see him get the other wing at Rushton Park named after him. Zac Clarke put his hand up for a start in the ruck in round one with some promising work in the middle.
The backline had a pretty easy day of it but looked to have tightened up a bit after having their pants removed last week against Carlton.
That's it for Fremantle for the summer. Next week is the NAB Cup Grand Final, then a week off and then Fremantle will end the Eagles 2013 hopes with what experts are tipping to be one of the biggest derby wins in history.
